CARDET after an invitation from the Ministry of Education and Culture, on Wednesday 30th of April, attended a presentation on development on Education and Sustainable Development, where it presented the following projects:

- “Intercultural Joint Awareness Raising – In.J.Awa.Ra” is a EuropeAid project which promotes the intercultural dialogue among the Global Youth

- “Make the Link”, a EuropeAid funded project, which envisions integrating issues around Technology Justice and Sustainable Development into the Design and Technology, Physics and Home Economics curricula of the formal education in Cyprus

- “Global Campus”, a EuropeAid project taking a non-formal, global learning, experiential approach that aims to increase the awareness, critical understanding and informed, constructive action for development of University students and other key stakeholders in the EU.

The presentation focused on the new data set for Education Sustainable Development, after the decade 2004-2014, in the basis which member states are invited to orientate their educational systems in relation to Education, Environment and Sustainable Development. The event attended NGO representatives and education related public services. 


CARDET, after an invitation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday 13th May, attended a meeting on the National Program for the European Year of Development 2015, where it presented the following projects:

The event was organized in the framework of the EU Member States national program for the European Development Year 2015, which will be presented to the European Commission the coming September. In the meeting there was exchange of ideas on the establishment of the Cyprus National Development Program for 2015.  Participants to the event were NGOs representatives, other public services and academia.

The Research and Development Centre CARDET (www.cardet.org) had a meeting with the inspectors of Secondary Education of Design & Technology, Physics, and Home Economics at the premises of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus, on the 16th of January, 2013, in the framework of the project “Make the Link”. This project envisions in integrating issues around Technology Justice into the Science and Technology curricula of the early secondary classes of the EU member states’ educational systems.

The meeting was aiming to inform the aforementioned instructors regarding the progress of the project and the next steps. CARDET and the inspectors had a positive attitude throughout the meeting and they discussed for all the open issues of the project. CARDET’s team gave to the attendees of the meeting a first draft of the teaching material which was developed so far, for the lesson of Technology. The aim was to present the teaching material and to get feedback from all the inspectors, and especially from the inspector of the lesson of Technology.

During the meeting it was discussed the progress of the project and CARDET gave a brief description regarding the teaching material that was prepared for the lesson of Technology. The inspectors provided feedback and made some useful comments on how the material could be improved, in order to meet the needs both of the teachers and the students. Also, they discussed the possibility of engaging some of the teachers of these courses in order to provide counseling during the development of the teaching material. At the end of the meeting, the discussion was focused on the timeframe of the project and the next steps, which include the development of the teaching material for the three lessons, the current needs of each one of the three educational disciplines, the teacher training seminars that will be organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus, as well as the implementations that will be made at some schools in the coming school year.

CARDET announces the 6th Innovative Learning Environmentsconference to take place on October 12, 2013 at the University of Nicosia. The event is organized by CARDET, The Cyprus Pedagogical Institute, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce, and the University of Nicosia.

The title of the conference is “21st Century Literacies: Reading, Creating, and Collaborating in Authentic Contexts” and it addresses teachers, academics, professionals, and anyone with interest in how to engage all learners and provide learning opportunities within authentic contexts.
